69 arrested over Lamu-Tana killings

Police have arrested 69 suspects over the recent Lamu and Tana River attacks since the Saturday.
Speaking on Wednesday to KBC on phone Deputy Inspector General Samuel Arachi said that 22 people were arrested Tuesday night adding that 45 suspects had been arrested by Tuesday morning.
The operation involved officers drawn from the General Service Unit, the Rapid Deployment Unit, the Rural Border Patrol Unit and regular police
Arachi said those arrested are believed to be directly involved in the killings.
County Commissioner, Joseph Rotich, said security agents were following important leads to apprehend the main suspects but said he would give details later.
Rotich dismissed as rumours reports that there had been heavy gunfire in Gatundu village of Kipini division.”
“Those were just rumours but we are still investigating,” Mr. Rotich told journalists.
Thousands of residents have fled their homes following the killing of 21 people on Saturday night.
