The national soccer team Harambee Stars left early this morning for Sao Paulo, Brazil – the South American Republic that is hosting the 55th edition of the FIFA World Cup.

The plane carrying the team members and officials left Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly before 5 a.m.

Harambee Stars is travelling to Brazil courtesy of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s personal pledge to sponsor the team to Brazil after winning the CECAFA championships last year.

According to the team Captain Jerim Fredrick Onyango, the sponsorship by the Head of State has highly bolstered their dreams and desires to perform on the international stage.

Onyango said the decision by the President and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta to sponsor them to the world-class event has not only boosted their morale but also given them an opportunity to watch and learn from the best teams and coaches.

“We have role models in these international teams. We would like to emulate; this opportunity to watch them live and to mingle with them, really gives us the opportunity to learn more,” Onyango said.

While in Brazil, the team is scheduled to watch the clash between Portugal and Ghana that will kick off at 1900hrs Nairobi time.

The team will be hosted in Brasilia, Brazil by the Kenyan Ambassador His Excellency Kirimi Kaberia.
