The East Africa Community Regional Programme for Sensitization of Border Communities commenced at Rusumo town which sits at the border of Rwanda and Tanzania.

The overall objective of this programme is to raise awareness among cross-border communities within the EAC region including Kenya, specifically those living in close proximity to the border and small scale traders, for them to understand and own the stakes and opportunities of the EAC integration, according to an EAC Press Release.

Speaking during the official opening on behalf of the EAC Principal Public Relations Officer, the EAC Media Expert, Sukdev Chhatbar, emphasized the importance of empowering the common man at the grass-roots level to enhance their involvement and active participation towards building a stronger and solid foundation for a people-centred EAC integration process, since they are the key beneficiaries of this course.

The next sensitization workshop is set to be carried out at Manyovu and Mugina towns in Tanzania and Burundi respectively next week.
