JSC appoints new Industrial Court Registrar

Kandet joined the Judiciary in 2003 as a District Magistrate and rose through the ranks to the position of Principal Magistrate

The Judicial Service Commission has appointed Kennedy Kandet as Registrar of the Industrial Court, with effect from June 3, 2014. 

Until his appointment, Kandet   was an Assistant Registrar, Magistrates’ Courts, with special responsibilities for the Auctioneers Licensing Board.

Kandet joined the Judiciary in 2003 as a District Magistrate and rose through the ranks to the position of Principal Magistrate.

He served in various stations including Garissa, Mandera, Meru and Milimani Commercial Courts.

The Constitution of Kenya, 2010, established the Industrial Court under Article 162(2) (a) with the status of the High Court to hear matters related to employment and industrial relations as well as promotes good employment and labour relations in Kenya.

Since its creation with the appointment of the first 12 judges in 2012, the Industrial court has established its operations in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nyeri, Nakuru and Kisumu.

The Industrial Court Act requires the Judiciary to eventually devolve the Industrial Court to all counties to ensure reasonable, equitable and progressive access to the judicial services.
