Illicit brew kills five in Nandi County

Five people have been confirmed dead after allegedly consuming alcohol in different parts of Nandi County.

Speaking to press at his office, Kapsabet County Referral Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr. Francis Maiyo, said four of the deceased were admitted Wednesday and died overnight while one who was brought in the morning died at the outpatient unit.

Dr. Maiyo said investigations are ongoing to confirm the exact cause of the deaths, adding that they had reduced levels of conscience when they were admitted. ‘We are going to do postmortems to ascertain the exact cause.’

According to Dr Maiyo, this is the first time such cases have been reported this year.

He said among the dead are an Assistant chief, a Lab Technician at the hospital and a teacher.
