Armed bandits have reportedly killed two people and injured one near Modagashe along the border of Isiolo and Garissa counties.
Garba Tulla Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto said the two were killed Thursday when bandits armed with AK47 assault rifle sprayed bullets on a Toyota probox vehicle that was travelling from Iresaboru to Modagashe.
“A Toyota Probox carrying seven passengers was ambushed about 3km from Modagashe township by armed bandits of Somali origin. Two male passengers including the owner of the vehicle, Hassan Daudi, aged 40, and a herder only identified as Khalif were shot dead during the attack,” said the DCC over the phone.
Rutto further disclosed that the injured was a young lady aged about 25 years who is receiving treatment at Lagdela hospital. He said the rest of the passengers fled from the scene.
The deputy county commissioner said they are pursuing three suspects in collaboration with a security team from Lagdela Sub-County.
He said following the incident shops in Modagashe were closed and the police from Lagdela and Sericho are patrolling the streets.
Rutto said the dead were taken to Lagdela Sub – County Hospital mortuary for postmortem and will be buried today according to Islamic culture.
He said security in Garba Tulla Sub-county is tight and the bandits who seem to have been on revenge mission laid an ambush along the road.
