CECAFA senior challenge cup takes a break after first round

The CECAFA senior challenge cup took a break on Wednesday after the first round of matches and will resume Thursday afternoon, with three matches on card at the Machakos County Stadium and Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County.

Harambee Stars will however be playing their next encounter this Saturday against Zanzibar.

Kenya, Libya and Rwanda have however played two matches each in group ‘A’ but all group ‘B’ teams have played a game each.

Going into the break, Harambee Stars lead group ‘A’ with four points after winning against Amavubi of Rwanda and played to a barren draw with Libya, a point above Zanzibar who are second.

Ethiopia lead pool ‘B’ with three points, two points above defending champions Uganda and Burundi who are second and third, respectively.

Tanzania will face their counterpart Zanzibar in the early kick off encounter in Machakos Thursday, before Rwanda takes on Libya at the same venue.

Ethiopia and Burundi will meet in Kakamega in a group ‘B’ encounter.

There will be a single group ‘B’ match in Kakamega this Friday between Uganda and South Sudan.

Kenya will hope to keep their unbeaten record intact when they play Zanzibar in the second match at the Machakos stadium on Saturday as Rwanda and Tanzania open proceedings at the same venue.

The final of the tournament will be staged on the 17th of this month.
