  KBC Idhaa

KBC idhaa ya taifa was started 53 years ago. In 1953 known as African Broadcasting Service with the aim of informing people what was happening at the war front.

In 1954, Kenya Broadcasting Service was established and set up Kiswahili Service and Regional Service.KBC idhaa ya taifa has made tremendous steps in expansion. It has expanded it's medium wave frequency on national level and also it's FM signal.

In 1989,the then Voice of Kenya converted to Kenya Broadcasting Corporation. In December 2006, KBC idhaa ya taifa relaunched and maintained it's name to reposition itself and provide a comprehensive range of programming which is trendy and commercial viable.KBC idhaa ya taifa offers unprecedented of programming for the listener and advertiser as follows:-

News, News headlines, current affairs, business news and sports, commercial programmes e.g. sponsored programmes, sports ,DJ mentions, lease of programmes link feeds and airtime to clientele, pre recorded programmes info bytes, programme promotions and live programme presentation, live outside broadcast, international programme links and signal feeds.

Target Audience

KBC idhaa ya taifa targets socio-economic class e.g. farmers, teachers, mechanics, carpenters, e.t.c .In terms of the age bracket, 20-44 years, primary and secondary group 30-45 years of age.


Programme Types and Format

KBC idhaa ya taifa being a national broadcast is issue oriented with free style chit chat kind of programming throughout the day. The key idea is to provide listeners with necessary information without overdoing it.

Formats vary from breakfast co- presented informative African music driven shows, midmorning youth entertainment shows with tit bits, chit chat and audience call in and SMS , lunch time music presentation, afternoon salaams shows, Agricultural programmes, special programmes, programmes highlighting on traditional value and outside broadcast.


Listenership

KBC idhaa ya taifa serves approximately 30% FM and 70% MW land mass. We are growing day by day as the service continues to respond to the changing needs , interests and lifestyles of our esteemed listeners.
