The Standard Gauge Railway will now be extended to Kisumu and Malaba under the phase 11 program.
The Cabinet has approved the extension of the railway line to be financed under the Government-to-Government arrangement and the Kenya Railways Corporation and China Communications Construction are expected to sign the commercial contract.
In its meeting Wednesday the Cabinet also approved the modernization of the Embakasi inland container terminal and development of access roads to the deport in readiness for the Nairobi-Mombasa Standard Gauge Railway line.
The existing Metre Gauge Railway line between Naivasha and Nakuru, through Eldoret and Webuye to Malaba will be refurbished and modernized including all branches of the railway network in the country.
The meeting also adopted Phase 1 of the Road Annuity Programme to develop 435 km in various parts of the country to be financed through a Public Private Partnership basis to leverage the Private Sector to bridge the road infrastructure funding gap.
Also approved by Cabinet were two bills which include the Bribery Bill, 2016 that will criminalize both offering and receiving of bribes by any person, including local or foreign entities, and to make specific requirements for private entities to have in place procedures for the prevention of bribery.
The Witness Protection Bill that seeks to align the provisions of the Bill with the Constitution and other legislation.
