Nyeri Deputy Governor Mutahi Kahiga has taken over as the 4th governor of Nyeri.

Kahiga has promised to fulfil the dreams and the vision of the late Governor Gakuru Wahome to make Nyeri great.

Kahiga who takes over the mantle of leadership following the death of Gakuru  in a road accident is pledging to work with the current county executive committees.

Kahiga, a former teacher, took the oath of office Monday in a colourful ceremony attended by over 500 residents at the Nyeri County government offices.

However, none of the other 46 governors attended the ceremony even after promising support for Mr Kahiga following Dr Gakuru’s death in a tragic crash at Kabati along the Nyeri-Nairobi highway.

Kahiga’s swearing-in puts to rest uncertainty over the fate of his ascension to power following reports that some local leaders were scheming to block him from taking office.

Governor Kahiga has told off his critics saying he is up to task and promised Nyeri residents of his dedication and commitment in delivering the dream the departed governor had for the county.

The preachers said they were praying against the spirit of death that has robbed Nyeri residents’ of their two leaders in a span of 9 months.

The event was witnessed by ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru, former Nyeri Governor Samuel Wamathai and Members of County Assembly among dignitaries.

Elsewhere speaking after visiting the personal assistant of the late governor at a Nairobi hospital Muranga Governor Mwangi wa Iria called on social media users to be responsible and stop the propaganda regarding the death of the governor.

Governor wa Iria said there is need for all Kenyans to allow security agencies complete investigating into the accident.
