Police gun down two al-Shabaab suspects

Police in Mombasa have gunned down two suspected al shabaab operatives.

The two Salim Hanjary Benzimba and Kibwana Ahmed Abdallah alias Rajab were shot dead after they engaged police in a gun battle in Junda area of Kisauni.

One of the suspects Ishamail Shoshi a fugitive on the police radar managed to escape and is believed to be wounded.

Security agencies are now appealing to residents of Mombasa to report anyone with gunshot wounds.

Omar Abdilahi is a brother to one of the deceased claims that his brother was just a social man and not a terrorist as alleged.

He said the police raided his brother’s house without ascertaining who was in the house and killed an innocent person.

He noted that killing of innocent people could contribute to retaliatory actions by the youth.

According to the Kisauni Deputy OCPD Walter Abondo, the two were members of the alshabab were suspected to have been planning to carry out attacks in Mombasa.

Police recovered 17 rounds of ammunition, four plastic explosives and four bomb detonators.
