Waiguru calls on gov’t to protect women aspirants

Former devolution cabinet secretary Ann Waiguru is calling for protection of women political aspirants during the electioneering period.

Waiguru says violence is being used to intimidate women politicians by male chauvinists who fear competition something that must be addressed as a matter of urgency.

The altercation between Embu senator Lenny Kivuti and Runyenjes MP Cicily Mbarire has attracted the wrath of women aspirants.

Waiguru is warning that political violence will scare away women aspirants soothing that should be arrested.

She however said she is ready to face off with any of her opponents and that nothing will stop her quest in seeking the highest office in Kirinyaga county.

The former devolution CS also took issue with a section of elder from the county opposed to her bid saying there are in for a rude shock.

Waiguru appeal for protection of women politicians came even as a study conducted by a Non- governmental Organization, Agency for Cooperation and Research (ACCORD , indicates that women in certain parts of the country were facing challenges in financing their campaigns.

The report launched in Bungoma claims the current political system set up pauses a major challenge to women politicians as compared to their male counterparts.
