Court set to rule on Obado’s bail application



Migori Governor Okoth Obado will Friday afternoon know his fate as the High Court is set to make a ruling on his bail application.

Obado, his Personal assistance Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero have been charged afresh with two counts of murder in the death of Sharon Otieno and her unborn child.

The Migori Governor is seeking to be released on bail pending hearing and determination of the case.

Obado who is being held at Industrial Area Prison is accused of planning and financing the gruesome murder of Sharon Otieno and her unborn child.

The court has already consolidated the murder charges facing Obado, his personal assistant Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero.

Their initial bail application was due on Monday but was postponed until Friday with Justice Jessie Lessit saying the court was busy.

Obado who has been receiving medical treatment at the Kenyatta national hospital requested to be released on bail to seek specialized treatment.

This comes even as the mother of Sharon Otieno and the Federation of Women Lawyers filed an affidavit asking the court not to release Obado and his co-accused until the murder trial is expedited.

Sharon’s mother Melinda Auma argues that releasing the accused on bail would undermine the greater public interest to find the killers of her daughter.

Sharon’s mother further states that there are compelling reasons to deny the accused persons bail as she believes that they conspired to murder her daughter Sharon Otieno.
