DT Dobie and Volkswagen launched the Tiguan SUV and Amarok pick up at a well attended event held in the Tamarind Tree Hotel.
The guests were able to test drive the two new VWmodels.
In his welcome speech Ian Middleton, Managing Director of DT Dobie highlighted the comfort and safety features of the new Volkswagens and emphasized the power and fuel efficiency of the Tiguan and Amarok diesel engines.
The Tiguan has a two litre turbo charged 143 horsepower engine mated with a seven speed automatic transmission featuring 4Motion permanent four wheel drive.
The Amarok is equipped with a more powerful two litre engine delivering 180 horsepower with an eight speed automatic transmission.
Usha Nagpal, General Sales Manager for Volkswagen spoke in detail on the features of the Tiguan and said, “The long list of safety equipment includes Anti-locking Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake Pressure Distribution (EBD) and stability control. Among the driver aids are an electric parking brake and for off road use the driver is helped by hill descent assist.Day time running lights (LED) give a clear indication to the drivers of oncoming vehicles”.
“The safety of drivers and passengers features strongly in the specifications for both models. There are three point seat belts in the front with height adjustment and belt tensioner with three key point seat belts for passengers in the rear”.
Turning to the Volkswagen Amarok she said, “The majority of pick-ups in use in Kenya have manual transmissions and the launch of the new Volkswagen Amarok has stirred the market by offering a choice of either an automatic, or manual gear change.”
“The Amarok has heavy duty suspension with robust under body protection for the front end and the 80 litre fuel tank. The cabin is protected against dust by the climatic air conditioning system.Built to cope easily with unsurfaced tracks, off road conditions, mud and steep climbs and descents the driver has the use of 4Motion transmission with a rear differential lock”.
