Eight people injured in Nairobi factory fire

At least eight people have been injured in an explosion and fire incident at a spirits factory along Mombasa Road in Nairobi.

Fire fighters struggled to contain the fire which spread fast at the Africa Spirits near Nyayo Stadium.

Emergency service providers were rushed to the scene with the police tying to control crowds surging at the scene amid fears that other remaining tanks could explode and cause more damage and injuries.

The Casualties were taken to Mariakani Hospital, South B, and the more seriously injured to Mater Hospital.

Police said those who were injured were workers hit by glass from the site and they are yet to know the cause of the explosion that caused the fire.

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Senator Mike Sonko were among notable figures who arrived at the scene of the fire.

“The fire-fighters responded well and were able to contain it. It could have been a huge fire because of the inflammable spirits in the building,” said Dr Kidero.

Nine of the workers injured in the explosion were admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital.
