Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has sensationally claimed the he turned down a request by NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga, his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka, principal Musalia Mudavadi and controversial businessman Jimmi Wanjigi to join the Alliance with a promise that they would front him as their gubernatorial candidate in Machakos County.

Sonko further says he also dismissed an alternative offer to be NASA’s Senate candidate in Nairobi saying he would only have joined the opposition if Kalonzo was the flag bearer.

Remarks by NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga during a recent campaign tour of Nairobi that if elected President he would resign, if Senator Mike Sonko is elected Governor in August appears to have opened a can of worms with Sonko now claiming that NASA flag bearer is bitter after he turned down offers to join NASA.

Speaking in Embakasi South after attending a church service, Sonko said Raila should campaign for Presidency without intimidating other leaders saying Kenyans should be allowed to elect leaders of their choice.

He says he held several consultative meetings with the entire NASA leadership and turned down a second offer to defend his Senate seat on a NASA ticket at a time when Kalonzo was being considered as its gubernatorial candidate in Nairobi.

Jubilee candidates accompanying him said the remarks by Raila were unfortunate and called on County residents to vote for Sonko as well other party candidates in the August 8th polls.

Elsewhere, Kirinyaga senate aspirant Dishon Kirima has said incumbent senator Daniel Karaba has failed in his mandate of oversight over the county government.

Kirima claims over Sh.3.4 billion was misappropriated by the county government under Karaba’s watch yet he did nothing to avert the loss.

Kirima who is contesting on a Narc Kenya ticket decried the slow pace of development in Kirinyaga County.

He said if elected he will ensure money devolved to the county is utilized by the county government to spur development.
