Glenfiddich 21 is the only award-winning expression within the Glenfiddich range containing Caribbean Rum
Glenfiddich recently launched the Glenfiddich 21 in Nairobi at an evening event at the Trademark Hotel, Village Market hosted by Joey Muthegi and the Glenfiddich global ambassador Struan Grant Ralph. Guests were invited to sample the new scotch whisky, the only award-winning expression within the Glenfiddich range to undergo finishing in casks that once contained Caribbean rum.
What is Glenfiddich 21?
Glenfiddich 21 Year Old is the latest expression from the World’s Most Awarded single malt Scotch whisky, Glenfiddich, which will be added to the family-run distillery’s prestigious collection of aged single malts.
Is it new in Kenya?
This is a new whisky in Kenya. It is already available in other markets. This expression has been matured for a minimum of 21 years in American and European Oak casks at The Glenfiddich Distillery and finished for four months in American oak barrels seasoned with Glenfiddich’s own Caribbean rum.
What is so special about it?
It is the only Glenfiddich single malt to undergo unique finishing in Gran Reserva casks that once contained premium Caribbean rum, specially imported to The Glenfiddich Distillery.
What is a Gran Reserva cask?
Gran Reserva casks are casks that have previously been seasoned with rum from the Caribbean, specially blended to Glenfiddich’s own secret recipe.
How does the Caribbean rum interact with the whisky?
The key thing to note about this innovative production method is that the rum liquid does not directly mingle with the whisky at any point. It is the interaction with the Gran Reserva casks during the finishing process which generates the complex layers of intense sweetness. The rum has already infused into the wood so that the cask retains its sweet and fruity flavours. The whisky spends four months in the Gran Reserva cask mingling with those flavours, resulting in its distinctive finish.
What does the rum cask finish add to the flavour profile?
The whisky is already rich and intense in flavour thanks to its long maturation in American and European oak casks. The rum cask finish adds extra complexity, drawing out a vibrant, spicy warmth and soft yet lively fruity notes on the palate.
