JKIA Terminal 1A fully functional

A system test for the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Terminal 1A formally known as Terminal 4 has been conducted to ascertain whether all equipment and systems are fully functional.

The new Terminal 1A has the capacity to handle 2.5 million passengers annually on its own, which is the current capacity for the entire JKIA.

Operations at the Terminal will start next week for departure passengers only for flights with Kenya Airways and Sky Team Airlines.

The Terminal 1A will be ready for all flights by 30th July.

The most distinguishing feature of the new Terminal 1A is that it separates departure and arrival passengers’ thus on the time taken on clearance.

The terminal has the capacity to handle 1,500 one way passengers during peak hours at the same time.

The complete refurbishment of JKIA will be finished by early next year says Transport CS Engineer Michael Maina.
