National soccer team Harambee Stars defeated Malawi 1-0 in an international friendly match played Tuesday at Kasarani stadium in Nairobi.

Kenya used the match to prepare for their forthcoming 2019 Africa Cup of nations qualifier against Ethiopia away next month.

Smarting from their 1-0 defeat of Ghana, Harambee Stars sought to continue with the momentum against Malawi ranked 11 places below them.

Head coach Sebastien Migne stuck to the same side that beat Ghana on Saturday.

After a barren first half, Migne did make a couple of changes and the introduction of Erick ‘Marcello’ Ouma  proved vital with the Albanian  based winger providing a dangerous cross in the 78th minute that was tapped home by Francis Kahata.

Stars survived number of attacks staged by Malawi in the dying minutes holding on to grind out a slim 1-0 victory.

Malawi who suffered a 3-0 defeat against Morocco over the weekend in their 2019 Afcon group ‘B’ qualifier used the friendly to prepare for their third round fixture against Cameroon in Younde next month.

Kenya ranked second in Group ‘F’ on 3 points travel to Ethiopia on October 10  before hosting the return fixture 4 days later in Nairobi as they seek to make their first AFCON finals trip in 14 years.

The last time Kenya featured in the continental finals was in 2004 in Tunisia and the side was knocked out at the group stage
