Kidero condems attack at Westgate Mall
Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero has expressed concern and shock over the storming of Westgate Mall in Nairobi’s Westlands area around 11 am Saturday morning by armed gunmen and condemned the attack, terming it one of Nairobi’s darkest hours.
In a statement issued in Nairobi, Dr. Kidero described the incident as unfortunate and vowed that Nairobi City County will collaborate with all the security agents and relevant authorities to take a critical review of the situation with a view to ensure that Nairobi City remains a secure and a safe place do business and live.
“I am deeply saddened by the incident that took place at Westgate this morning and wish to assure residents of Nairobi that we shall move swiftly and engage very closely with all the security agents and relevant authorities to ensure that the security situation in Nairobi is not compromised in any way.”
Dr. Kidero condoled with families that lost their loved ones during the attack and called for prayers and calm as the security agents handle the situation which he described as cowardly attack on innocent civilians.
Over 20 are feared dead and 50 injured according to Kenya Red Cross.
Rescue operation still on as President Uhuru Kenyatta expected to issue a statement.
