Kiplagat defeats world champ Kiprop in sizzling 1,500m

Commonwealth games champion Silas Kiplagat defeated double World Champion Asbel Kiprop to emerge victorious in the 1500 metres race in the 10th round of the Diamond league in Monte Carlo Monaco. 

Kiplagat won the race in a time of 3 minutes 27.64 seconds to lower Kiprop’s Diamond league record of 3 minutes 27.64 seconds set in Monaco on the same course last season.

Kiprop finished second ahead of his compatriot Ronald Kwemoi  who recorded  a time of 3 minutes 28.81 seconds.

World 800 metres record holder David Rudisha failed to shine again in Monaco after finishing 5th in a race that was won by Botswana’s Nijel Amos in a time of 1 minute 42.45 seconds.

Pierre-Ambroise Bosse from France finished second ahead of Mohammed Aman of Ethiopia.

Former World junior champion, Viola Kibiwott   finished third ahead of her compatriot Saly Kipyego in the women’s 5000 metres race won by Ehiopia’s Genzebe Dibaba.
