KNUT calls on Kaimenyi over release of certificates

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) officials are calling on Education Cabinet Secretary Professor Joseph Kaimenyi to convene an urgent meeting over the release of certificates that are being with by School Heads.

The government last week directed School heads to release to former students all certificates they are holding for non-payment of School fees.

KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion who was speaking in Kilgoris said they need to meet the Education CS to chart the way forward on how schools will meet their financial obligations, based on the student’s arrears, before the certificates are released.

Some School heads have refused to release certificates even after the President and his Deputy directed them to do so, assuring them that the government will offset the fee arrears.

The President further directed School heads not to stop students from sitting examinations over fee arrears.

This seems however not to have augured well with the KNUT officials who claim that School Heads are being undermined and  this may slow down development in learning in Secondary Schools.
