KNUT, TSC demand full installation of TSC’s committee
By Victor Muyakhane
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) have demanded the full installation by the government of TSC’s committee that is mandated to oversee the co-ordination and disciplinary matters for teachers.
The two organizations blame the government for engineering the plagues bedeviling the education sector including lack of harmony between the Education Ministry, KNUT and TSC.
KNUT secretary general, Wilson Sossion, threatened to lead the union members in downing tools if the committee is not put in place in the next seven days.
His sentiments were echoed by KNUT chair, Mudzo Nzili, who stated that despite the resolve to avoid politicking, the teachers shall not hesitate to take the necessary step to ensure the issue is resolved.
Nzili said there were several pending issues between KNUT and the Government that required to be addressed, specifically conflicting clauses in the constitution that were standing on the way for the smooth running of the Education sector.
The leaders were speaking at Embu University College during the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the institute and KNUT that offers a 16% discount on tuition.
