Political parties have until midnight Saturday to submit list of candidates to be nominated for special seats in Senate, National assembly and County assemblies.

This as the printing of ballot papers kicked off Friday despite the opposition National Super Alliance seeking court intervention to stop the tender awarded to Dubai based Al Ghurair firm.

With 44 days remaining to the August general elections, all political parties have less than 12 hours to submit to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission a list of candidates they wish to be nominated for special seats in Senate, National Assembly and the 47 County assemblies.

According to IEBC timelines, the parties should submit the list by 24th of June 2017.

The list according to the law must be organized in priority order and cannot change after submission.

Apart from the 16 women-only nominated slots in the senate, the submitted list of the remaining 4 seats must reflect gender balance.

Similarly, the 12 nomination slots for the National Assembly must also reflect the regional and ethnic diversity of the country.

And as the political parties move to comply with the electoral timeline on nomination before the midnight deadline, ballot paper printing is in the progress after it kicked off Friday.

According to IEBC, the Presidential ballot papers will be printed from 18th July.

The Opposition National Super Alliance has moved to court to have the ballot papers printing contract awarded to Dubai based Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing Company stopped.
