Matatu operators arrested over police murder

Police in Thika town have arrested over 20 Matatu operators following the brutal murder of an Administration Police Officer.

The operators are said to have injured another officer over alleged nonpayment of fare.

Area Administration Police Boss, Samuel Obonya, said two Administration Police officers  and a civilian boarded a Nairobi- bound Matatu when a misunderstanding occurred on how much fare they were supposed to pay to Nairobi.

The deceased is said to have given the tout 1,000 shillings to cater for his transport and that of his colleague and the civilian, when a confrontation ensued, pitting the officers and Matatu operators.

This is after the Matatu’s tout informed his colleagues that three suspected gangsters had entered the matatu and refused to pay.

The operators then cornered the 3 and clobbered them senseless, killing the AP officer and seriously injuring his colleague and the civilian.

Obonya said investigations have been launched and the culprits will be arraigned in court to face murder charges.
