Winners in each category will take home 250 thousand shillings

The inaugural edition of the Nairobi Diamond Run will now be held on the 17th of August and not this weekend as earlier scheduled.

While announcing the change of dates, race director George Kariuki said the postponement is due to the global athletic events that are taking place at the moment in USA and Scotland.

According to the race Technical Director, George Kariuki, registration centers, have been set up in major towns including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Garrissa and Eldoret among others with the exercise scheduled to end on August 10th.

The marathon has attracted veterans among them: four-time Boston women’s marathon champion Catherine Ndereba and former World Marathon champion Douglas Wakihuri.

Winners in each category will take home 250 thousand shillings. The money generated from the race will be channeled to the County Pension Fund endowment kitty with the chunk of it supporting retired athletes.

Elsewhere, reigning Kenyan premier league champions Gor Mahia Football club have signed a three year kit sponsorship deal with Spanish apparel makers Joma sport in a deal worth five million shillings. The kits were unveiled last evening at a Nairobi hotel.
