Michael Oyamo, the key suspect in the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno has been denied bail and will be detained for 14 more days at Muthaiga Police Station.
Judge Luka Kimaru of the Milimani Law Courts here in Nairobi, agreed with the prosecution saying that it was only fair that the suspect be remanded to allow detectives finalise investigations.
Oyamo, the personal assistant to Migori Governor Okoth Obado appeared Wednesday morning at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi where he faced a murder charge.
The charge stated that on the night of September 3 and 4, he and others murdered Ms. Otieno at Owande area in Rachuonyo.
The charge was read to him but he was not required to plead. Justice Kimaru has however granted him access to his counsel and accredited family members.
The case will be mentioned on 26th September before Lady Justice Lesit.
He was brought to Nairobi after being grilled for several hours at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations office in Kisumu.
Oyamo had been released from police custody in Homa Bay as per a court order but was rearrested moments later and whisked away for interrogation.
The DCI officer said Oyamo could not appear at Homa Bay High Court over tension in the matter.
Obado presented himself at the DCI after he was summoned to appear for interrogation his name having been adversely mentioned in the matter.
Obado has categorically denied involvement in the murder of the university student saying his PA met Sharon in his own capacity.
Police say DNA samples were taken from him as part of investigations to verify Sharon’s claim that he was the father of the unborn child who also died when she was stabbed eight times while seven months pregnant.
