Parliament to resume on Tuesday after long holiday recess

The two houses of Parliament are set to reconvene Tuesday afternoon for the third session after a long Christmas holiday recess.

The two houses of parliament resumes to a full tray of house business with a number of crucial bills have been lined up for publication and debate.

Parliament also resumes its sittings against the backdrop of numerous political developments which may provide a litmus test for the cohesion enjoyed in the latter days of the second session.

The first order of business for the National Assembly and the Senate will be to appoint members to their respective house business committees.

ANC’s Godfrey Osotsi has been nominated to replace his Emuhaya counterpart Omboko Milemba in the National Assembly’s House business committee.

According to our sources, Milemba’s removal may be as a result of his political affiliation to Deputy President William Ruto.

Expected in Parliament is the publication and debate on the Statistics bill which provides a framework for the national population census scheduled for August.

The lawmakers will also debate the Budget Policy Statement and the Supplementary Budget as well as bills such as the IEBC Amendment bill and the Public Finance Management bill among others.

There will also be keen interest in how the bi-cameral Parliament deals with the recent political developments in the country, where Jubilee is faced with infighting while on the other hand the Opposition is struggling to live up to its mandate of holding the government of the day accountable.
