Richard Maina and Edmond Nge’tich are the proud winners of the Mcheza weekly jackpot worth Kshs. 21 million. MCheza CEO, Peter Karimi today presented each winner with a cheque of Ksh 10, 580,954 during a colorful ceremony held at a Nairobi hotel.
Thirty year old Richard Maina and a father to a ten-month old baby was all joyous after been pronounced a 10.5 million winner.
Maina, a Bodaboda operator has gambled for the Jackpot in five consecutive times without winning.
On his side, Edmond Nge’tich who hails from Kericho couldn’t believe his ears after receiving the good news.
Meanwhile, Mcheza C.E.O shared his sentiments about a motion that was tabled in Parliament to control the widely game of gambling.
Meanwhile, parliament has rejected a motion sponsored by Deputy Minority Leader in the National Assembly Jakoyo Midiwo seeking to establish a 13-member Select Committee to inquire into activities of the betting, gaming and gambling industry.
Midiwo wanted betting companies who he claimed generate 3 billion shillings daily to be regulated to ensure they pay taxes.
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi however noted that a bill on the same sponsored by Majority Leader Adan Duale would be tabled in parliament Wednesday.
Debate on betting and gambling has over the last three weeks been gathering steam in parliament.
Some MPs claimed betting was being used to sanitize illicit cash from piracy and money laundering activities.
