The team now tops group ‘A’ with 6 points, and will play Kenya’s Harambee stars who now lie second on 4 points, in their third game this Saturday.
Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro stars needed a point to keep alive their chances of advancing to the knockout phase after drawing with Libya in their opening game.
Zanzibar on the other hand defeated Amavubi stars of Rwanda 3-1 in their opener on Tuesday this week.
Tanzania went ahead through Himid Mao’s strike in the 28th minute, leading 1-0 by the end of the first half.
Zanzibar who were re-energized in the second half, equalized through Kassim Kahmis in the 66th minute then scored the winning goal in the 78 minute through Ibrahim Ahmada.
Zanzibar now top Group A after winning two matches so far and are closely followed by hosts Kenya on four points from two matches.
In other matches Rwanda were held to a barren draw by Libya while Burundi defeated Ethiopia 4-1 to top group ‘B’ on 4 points.
