State given a month to finalize Timamy’s investigations
By Ann Mburu
Court has ordered state to finalize its investigations on the charges against the Lamu governor Issa Timamy in one month.
Timamy was arrested in connection with the violence that rocked Mpeketoni in Lamu County in the month of June that left over 60 people dead.
He is accused of the displacement of persons, terrorism and murder.
Justice Martin Muya granted the state prosecutor Alexander Muteti one month contrary to the two month request he had asked for.
Muya said that the two months period was unreasonable and that one month should be enough time to gather the evidence needed in the case since the accused has been on their radar for the last one month.
Timamy still maintains his innocence saying that he has nothing to do with the ongoing killings in Lamu County.
His lawyer Abdullahi Abdinassir echoed the same sentiments saying his client will soon be proven innocent.
The mention of the case will be on the 18th of august this year.
