The Director General of the Communication Commission of Kenya, Sammy Kirui has been elected President of the Council of the International Telecommunications Union, ITU. Kirui will head the 46 member body for a period of one year. The ITU council was set up in 1947 to coordinate operations of the Union. He takes over from Sarava Membes of Portugal whose term has expired.
