Civil servants’ strike is illegal- Govt.

Written By:Graham Kirwa   , Posted: Fri, Aug 20, 2004

Civil Servants strike is looming as talks between the government and the Kenya Union of Civil Servants talks hit a deadlock. Labour Minister Newton Kulundu however points a finger at a local non-registered NGO which he said is being backed by a foreign organization for inciting the civil servants to go on strike. Kulundu said the NGO wants to jeopardize the government and has ruled out the strike terming it illegal. The union however, has given the government a seven day notice for the strike. The secretary General of the Union Alphayo Nyakundi said the talks collapsed after the government side failed to table written proof that the 4.2 billion shillings spelled out in the budget would be used in the adjustment of low cadre civil servants.
