Health facilities in Nandi South district are owed over 1.2 million shillings by the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), the area MOH Dr. Owino Okongo has said. Dr. Okongo disclosed that the monies are as a result of 567 patients who are members of NHIF and were treated at the hospital and health centres since 2002 to date. He explained that the contributors whose money have not been remitted are workers at the tea estates, town council and civil servants in the district. In an interview with KNA at Nandi Hills town, the officer lamented that the non-payment of the money by NHIF was hampering them in providing the much needed services to the local people.
