African countries are lagging behind in development due to the high corruption levels that hinder service delivery.
Assistant Minister for Information and Communication Koigi Wamwere says that the situation is complicated further by foreign media stations operating in the continent by airing distorted information about African countries.
Speaking at the Kenya High Commission residence in Abuja, Nigeria, Koigi called for the cancellation of frequencies being used by foreign media stations in Nairobi.
He noted that most African countries that have applied to set up FM stations in foreign countries have been blocked from doing so.
He said there was need to develop the media industry in Kenya to enable it compete effectively with international media stations and present issues about the country in a better light.
Koigi also noted that Kenya Broadcasting Corporation is capable of sustaining itself by generating its own revenue and expanding its services.
Meanwhile Assistant Minister for Planning and National Development Ekwe Ethuro has appealed to KBC Managing Director David Waweru to help increase the station's coverage in the country in order to prevent distortion of information.
