Vice president, Moody Awori has said the cabinet has approved the signing and ratification of the Hague convention on the protection of children and cooperation in respect of inter-country adoption.

Awori says the ratifications will make the provisions and regulations more effective and binding since they will promote partnership between Kenya and countries that receive her children through international adoption.

He added that the convention supplements the United Nations convention on the rights of the child (UNCRC) to enhance protection of fundamental rights of children who are subjects of international adoption.

The vice president was speaking at his Jogoo house office when he received a delegation of convention on the rights of the child-CRC members who had paid him a courtesy call.

Kenya will send the CRC delegation to Geneva in January to submit the country's second periodic report in the rights of the child.
