The second phase of elephant translocation from Shimba Hills National reserve that was suspended in October last year will resume next month.

Senior game warden at the Park Aggrey Maumo said that the exercise targeted to move 70 elephants to Tsavo East National Park.

The phase had targeted 250 elephants but was interrupted by torrential rains that pounded most of Kwale district and damaged the roads between the Park and Samburu.

Maumo said that KWS had already awarded tenders to repair the 52 Kilometers road from the Park to Samburu.

Meanwhile the Warden disclosed that KWS was planning to restock the Park with common animal species like the gazelles, dik diks, and elands from Naivasha and Laikipia national parks, then brand the game reserve so that it could market itself effectively.
