Vice President Moody Awori on Sunday led a team of Party of National Unity (PNU) Parliamentary and Civic aspirants in Kajiado District in drumming up support for the re- election of President Mwai Kibaki.

Speaking at Elangata Wuasi in Kajiado Central Constituency during a Harambee towards Loodokilani bursary fund, Mr.Awori made a passionate appeal to the Kajiado residents to vote for President Kibaki in the forthcoming general election owing to his successful development achievements in the last five years.

Speaker after speaker who included the Lang'ata Parliamentary aspirant, Stanley Livondo, Kajiado Central PNU aspirants Mr. Patrick Ole Segel Tuitui, David Ole Sankori and Mr. Moses Ole Lowuaya enumerated the tremendous development record the country has realized under President Kibaki.

The aspirants vowed to step up campaigns for President Kibaki and other PNU hopefuls in the area.

They dismissed the brand of politics agitated by the opposition, saying that Majimbo would split the country along ethnic lines.

The Vice President reiterated that PNU stood for peace and development and held great future for the country.

Mr. Awori at the same time said the government under PNU would ensure gender parity and defended the appointment of Mrs. Pamela Tuitui as a Commissioner of the Electoral Commission of Kenya, saying she was qualified for the job.

He said that PNU would guarantee the welfare of all Kenyans particularly to the youth who compose a larger portion of the county's population.

Mr. Awori noted that plans were underway to establish and rehabilitate Youth Polytechnics across the Country so that the youth may acquire skills that will help them be self-dependent.

He assured Pastoral communities in the country that the government would step up veterinary services to control livestock diseases in arid and semi-arid areas.

Mr.Awori at the same time added that abattoirs would be put up in such areas to supplement services rendered by Kenya Meat Commission.

The Vice President also called upon political leaders and public officers to ensure equitable distribution of government resources in their areas of jurisdiction.

Mr.Awori said the government has already disbursed Kshs.39million for water projects in Kajiado Central and urged officers in the area to ensure the resources were distributed equally in all regions.

The Vice President said that besides other efforts that have been accomplished to assist those living in arid zones, more water pumps and boreholes will be constructed to boost water supply.

Mr. Awori urged pastoral communities to regard livestock rearing as a commercial activity instead of sticking to the old cultural tendencies where they left the animals to die during famine instead of selling them in the right season.

During the Harambee, Kshs.1, 704,771 was realized. The Vice President gave Kshs.300, 000, Stanley Livondo 50,000, Area Member of Parliament General (Rtd) Joseph Nkaissery sent Kshs. 20,000 through the Chairman Ole Kejuado County Council, Joseph Ole Kores who gave 15,000, Kajiado Central Parliamentary Aspirants Sankori 5,000, Tuitui 10,000, Luwuaya 10,000, Kajiado DC Rashid Mohammed 5,000, Busia DC, John Ole Kephas 55,000 while schools in the area contributed 1,009,000.

Earlier, The Vice President officially opened Indupa Primary School, where he urged parents to encourage their girls to pursue education instead of engaging them early marriages.

Mr.Awori discouraged them from retrogressive cultural practices that are no longer beneficial in the modern world.

He lamented that most parents were forcing their children to tend livestock instead of going to school and urged them to take advantage of the Free Primary Education to enroll them in School.
