The government has disowned a document addressed to Ghana president John Kufuor purporting to state agreements reached between the president and ODM leader Raila Odinga on the political stalemate.
Government spokesperson Dr. Alfred Mutua said the letter written by World Bank country director of Kenya Colin Bruce, had alleged that agreements were presented by emissaries of the two leaders.
Addressing a press conference in Nairobi, Mutua said at no time had the president sent an agent to the World Bank county director to discuss such issues.
" The Government's attention has been drawn to a document addressed to H. E. President John Kufuor, the President of Ghana and AU Chairman, authored by Mr. Colin Bruce, World Bank's Country Director for Kenya and dated January 8th, 2008. The document is alleged to have been drawn in consultation with "emissaries" of President Mwai Kibaki and Hon. Raila Odinga. The Government wishes to categorically state that the document was brought to the attention of the Government for the first time Thursday afternoon by the Ghanaian delegation," he said.
Mutua added that: "At no time did President Kibaki send any emissary to World Bank Country Director to discuss a document of any nature. The Government, therefore, categorically disassociates itself with the contents of that document."
He said that the government remains committed to a constructive dialogue and welcomes the initiative taken by President John Kofuor.
