Detectives pursue UN official killers

Top police detectives from the country are in southern Sudan in pursuit of gunmen who shot dead a UN official in Lokichoggio in Turkana North district on Wednesday night.

Turkana Central Deputy OCPD Mark Wanjala said the detectives are inside Sudan where the bandits are suspected to have fled after the fatal shooting.

The UN logistician Silence Sirara was sprayed with bullets while he was driving home from a meeting at a Lokichoggio hotel at 10 pm.

The victim a Zimbabwean national was working for World Food Programme in the town.

Wanjala said the motive of the murder could not be immediately established but noted that bandit attacks in Lokichoggio had increased recently.
