AFC Leopards set for a re-launch

Former local soccer giants AFC Leopards are bracing themselves for a major re-launch that will see the team strive to regain its lost glory.

The team, which has shifted base to Nairobi from Kakamega, was early this year facing the possibility of disbandment due to financial constraints but can now breath a sigh of relief after well-wishers stepped in.

After being relegated from top flight soccer to the nation wide league two years ago, it seemed that AFC Leopards would fade to oblivion.

Friends of AFC led by acting chairman Alex Ole Magelo have set aside 475,000 shillings to revamp the team and are also calling on like minded individuals to chip in.

On Friday, they donated balls and boots with a promise to deliver uniforms and other equipment next week.

Coach Gilbert Selebwa said the team is looking forward to a fruitful season with promotion to the premier league being their ultimate goal.

The new AFC leopards side is brimming with talent, 35 players in all and Selebwa a former manager at the team who took charge a month ago also recently drafted four players all former students at Kakamega high school.

AFC Leopards takes on Homegrown and Flourspar in their nation wide fixtures this weekend before meeting on the 1st of next month.
