Celtel Kenya has appointed Rene Meza as its new CEO.

Meza takes over from Gerhard May who resigned early this year.

He joins Celtel Kenya from Millicom Company in Tanzania.

Meza, a Paraguayan has been in the industry for 10 years and has had stints in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Addressing the press Thursday Meza said Celtel Kenya has continued to play a major role in the economic development of the nation since it was established eight years ago, employing 750 people directly and 200 000 others indirectly.

"Celtel's commitment in the Kenyan market remains very high, as we plan to inverst an additional 25 billion shillings in the upcoming years oin order to continue expanding our network coverage and introduce new technologies...", he said.

Meanwhile Celtel will from August this year operate under a new name-Zain Group.
