Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has ascertained that Alvaro drink that was recently launched by the East African Breweries Limited does not contain alcohol.
KEBS managing director Kioko Mang'eli says independent samples tested at their laboratories revealed that the drink has no alcohol content.
The assertion follows allegations by a member of parliament that the drink contained alcohol and was a major cause of students going on the rampage in secondary schools.
Mang'eli together with health assistant minister Danson Mungatana toured the EABL plant at Ruaraka to ascertain whether the process of manufacturing Alvaro includes any fermentation process or fortification with spirits following a claim by a member of parliament on Tuesday.
Mangeli said KEBS carries out its duties efficiently and people making such claims to verify their facts first.
Questions have been previously raised on the use of one manufacturing line for the non alcoholic Alvaro drink and other alcoholic drinks.
Meanwhile EABL on Wednesday celebrated the manufacturing of seven million bottles since the drink was launched in March this year.
