A 16-year-old girl is recovering at Rhamu district hospital where she was admitted to after a harrowing rape ordeal in the hands of armed bandits.
The seven bandits, four of them armed with AK 47 rifles waylaid the girl between Rhamu and Sala towns and raped her repeatedly.
Area senior District Officer Stephen Kavulu confirming the incident on Friday said the girl was on her way to visit her elder sister in Sala location when she met the bandits, two kilometres from Rhamu town.
Kavulu said a contingent of security personnel had been dispatched to pursue the armed bandits but no arrest had been made.
He however stressed that the government would not leave any stone unturned in its effort to apprehend the bandits.
Kavulu appealed to locals to support the security personnel in the search for the rapists noting that the division had the highest record of rape cases in the district.
The medical officer in charge of Rhamu district hospital Dr. Muktar Issack said the girl was responding well to treatment and was in a stable condition.
