Kogelo lights up ahead of Obama's inaguration

Nyang'oma Kogelo village in Siaya is Tuesday a beehive of activity for the fourth day running, as tourists, both local and international gathered for the cultural festivities to celebrate the inauguration of Obama.

Senator Barrack Obama primary school was turned into an exhibition ground, with traditional dancers competing to thrill those in attendance.

Apart from the dances, there are makeshift hotels for those who want to taste traditional Luo meals, while those who want to know the cultural heritage of the community are taken through its history and shown various artifacts.

According to the Kogelo community chairman, Vitalis Okech Ogombe, two bulls and 10 chickens have been slaughtered to feed the guests.

said a further four bulls and 20 goats and sheep will be slaughtered to mark the climax of the festivities as Obama officially takes the mantle to lead the USA.

Obama takes office from George W. Bush as the first black American .

Monday Obama spent the final day of his pre-presidential life by taking part in a community renovation project in the Washington area to honor Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Obama called on American to dedicate themselves to public service.

At least two million people are expected to attend the inauguration in a record turnout for such an event. 

With enormous crowds expected, security chiefs say they are prepared for all eventualities.

Roads and bridges into Washington will be closed to traffic, with sniffer dogs on the subway.

Thousands of armed police, soldiers and plainclothes agents will be on the streets, with snipers in position on rooftops near the Capitol building and along the parade route.

Helicopters and fighter jets will patrol the skies, and coastguards will police the waterways.
