TSC withdraws salary

The Teachers Service Commission-TSC Monday withheld salaries for all Primary School teachers and instructed those occupying institutional houses to vacate immediately or be evicted.

TSC said only Post Primary teachers on duty will receive their January salaries.

The ongoing teachers' strike entered its second week and the war between the teachers service commission-TSC and Kenya national union of teachers- KNUT is on.

A court order issued by the industrial court last Friday, prohibited the strike and ordered striking teachers back to work.

In a statement to newsrooms Monday afternoon, the commission also said those occupying institutional houses have been ordered to vacate immediately or be evicted.

The TSC has further requested unemployed teachers to register with the nearest educational offices.

Teachers who retired within the last 7 years should also apply for the jobs on contract basis.

However, the commission maintains that it is still open to dialogue but on condition the strike is called off.

The Kenya Union of Teachers (KNUT) failed to appear before the Industrial Court twice last week even after TSC used substituted service through the media.

The court declared the strike illegal in the absence of the KNUT officials and authorised the commission to withdraw salaries of striking teachers.

In his ruling Justice Isaac Mukunya ordered KNUT to report to the conciliatory commission appointed by Labour Minister John Munyes.
