It has finally come to light, domestic abuse and violence is increasingly being meted on men by their spouses.

Shocking statistics indicate that in every 100 men 48 of them are facing the wrath of their women both physically and emotionally.

However they have chosen to suffer in silence for fear of public ridicule.

In Kenya intensive campaigns have been going on advocating against marital violence with the general assumption that women are often the victims.

However Maendeleo Ya Wanaume organization is revealing shocking statistics showing that men are now increasingly getting on the receiving end.

The organisation says economic empowerment of women is causing a majority of men sleepless nights.

In their findings the nature of physical abuse mainly includes battering, and inflicting bodily injuries whereas on an emotional level, insults, disrespect, cleaning, cooking, baby sitting and even rape have allegedly been meted on men.

Apart from economic empowerment being a major cause of abuse, the organisation also cites witchcraft where women seek misleading solutions form witchdoctors that fuel abuse.

Other causes include failure to pay dowry, property ownership and alcohol abuse.

According to the statics central province is leading in cases of violence against men at 72 % followed closely by Nairobi province at 60% with North Eastern coming in last with 9% of men being abused.

The organization is now calling for aggressive campaigns and advocacy to empower men to fight against domestic abuse and violence.
