All 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games medalists could benefit from government-funded scholarships if consultations within the ministry of youth affairs and sports bear fruits.
Speaking when she received the official games report from Chef de Mission Frida Shiroya, Sports Minister Professor Helen Sambili said there is need for all stakeholders to be innovative in the search and development of talent in the country.
Sambili, saluted the teenagers for their excellent display which saw them finish10th overall in the highly competitive 3rd edition of the bi-annual Games held in Pune, India.
The minister urged the national Olympic Committee and other stakeholders to learn from the past and improve the team.
And, NOC-K chairman Dr. Kipchoge Keino recognized the need for the umbrella body to be more aggressive in searching for talent across the country.
Kenya, represented by 27 athletes, finished in position 10 out of 71 countries in the games held last summer after collecting a total of 6 medals: 3 gold and 3 bronze in athletics and boxing.
Meanwhile reigning East and Central Africa Volleyball Club Champions KCB Men are among the 32 teams that have confirmed participation in the inaugural Aviation College and Nairobi Branch Volleyball tournament slated for this weekend at State House Girls high school.
Nairobi's Hospital Hill High School will be aiming to make a mark in the tournament which has attracted top teams from Central Province, Machakos and Hosts Nairobi.
According to Nairobi Aviation College planning and Corporate Affairs manager Peter Manyuru their sponsorship will go a long way in nurturing talents from the grassroots level.
Other top premier league teams expected to take part in the tournament are Co-operative Bank, Telkom Orange, Administration police training college among others.
Winners will walk away with trophies and certificates among other goodies.
