Two more people have died and 10 others are admitted at the Coast Provincial General Hospital following cholera outbreak in Mombasa.
The latest deaths bring to nine the number of people who have succumbed to the disease in the province this week.
The two died on arrival at the hospital. Medical personnel at the hospital said the dead were two men who were brought in on Thursday morning from private clinics in Kongowea and Bombolulu area.
The wife of one of the deceased Mrs.Bahati Musa said her husband had diarrhoea and was also vomiting before being rushed to a private clinic.
Coast Provincial General Hospital Nurse in-charge Mrs. Cecilia Muthani said ten more people were moved to the hospital on Wednesday night bringing to 29 the number of patients admitted suffering from cholera.
The patients have been put in a quarantined ward to check on the spread
Most of the patients admitted though on drip appeared dehydrated.
The hospital has isolated the cholera cases and an alert had been issued by the ministry of public health following the outbreak.
Public health personnel have visited areas of Kongowea, Kisauni, Bombolulu, Mishomoroni and Tudor where the outbreak has been reported.
Efforts by the government to contain the disease that has hit several parts of the country are being frustrated by water shortage occasioned by prolonged drought.
