The Ministry of Special Programmes intends to spend 960 million shillings to fight the AIDS pandemic through the Total War against AIDS (TOA) initiative.

Despite statistics this year confirming that cases of new infections have decreased, the Assistant Minister for Special Programmes  Mohamed Mohamu'd says the youth still bear the brunt of the disease.

The disease has in the recnt past claimed tt least 2million Kenyans and left another 2.5 million children orphaned.

The Sub Saharan Africa is the worst affected with statistics indicating over 3 million new cases of HIV reported among the youth.

Mohamud was speaking on Monday during the launch of the Church world service giving hope programme guidebook, which aims at empowering young people affected by HIV and AIDS, conflict and other vulnerabilities.

He said they had shifted focus to the youth in the fight against the pandemic with the incorporation of HIV and AIDS subject in the school curriculum.
